My Story
Rediscovering My True Self: A Journey With Life Dezine
I’ve been in the design game for as long as I can remember, but nothing felt right.
The exploitative nature of fashion, making subpar products look good, and selling things people don’t need—none of it fulfilled me.
I was on autopilot, escaping my pain and trauma through busy work.
Losing my mother to lung cancer shook my world, revealing that I was merely existing, not living.
A life of self-sacrifice, a learned behavior inherited from her.
Realizing I had lived life wrong left me overwhelmed. Where do I start? So much to fix.
Facing Reality
"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." — Anaïs Nin
Alone in my tiny South Williamsburg apartment, I faced the reality of my situation and realized I needed to prioritize myself and my well-being.
COVID lockdowns forced me to confront myself—the one person I had been avoiding my entire life.
I began to redirect the care and love I gave so freely to others back to myself, doing my best to break free from old patterns.
Rediscovering My Strengths
"The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any." — Alice Walker
Talking to loved ones reminded me of my true self—ballsy, creative, and ambitious.
I surrounded myself with successful people, leaned into discomfort, and committed to my evolution as if my life depended on it. Because it did.
I became more and more obsessed with self-mastery, but the whole act of 'fixing' has a flip side—it makes you unable to live in the present because it's never-ending; we're all a work in progress and will never be perfect.
Mastering My Narrative
I took control of my life, focusing on what I could change—my responses. I learned that while life isn't always fair, our reactions define our path forward.
